Project update.
Finally got Mahara installed all sorts of problems, most of them of my own making. The install would not work due to permissions and the path to the data directory. Then after a while I read that php flags in the .htaccess files would not work with SUEXEC I then followed the suggestions of making the required changes in the php.ini file instead of the .htaccess file. Once I got that solved and realized I was seeing the cached version of the white php not working page everything was OK. Next to see if I can get Mahara linked to Moodle.

Got started on the project. Joomla–>Moodle–>Mahara
Located a server that met the requirements of all elements basically Mahara which needs mysql 5.02+ and PHP 5.1.3+. That turned out to be a problem as I am trying this out on an inexpensive shared server from surpasshosting. They had told me they could not upgrade MySQL and suggested a VPS a tad more expensive, $6 per month compared to $50 per month.
So I found another service that accommodated the requirements. Not sure how that worked as I had the site yanked yesterday as my credit card billing address was different than the IP address that was registered when I applied for the site. Have sent them an message and hopefully I will be able to play a bit more soon. Wonder how this works and if I had vpn to a canadian site if it would have made a difference. This works with Pandora if you are not in the states.
Anyhow we shall see where this takes me.
ops forgot a reminder I upgraded the school Moodle to 1.8.2 what a headache: Moodle is a lot easier on flv files.
- make sure filter is active
- upload the file
- add a link with the file url
- video plays like this will try other embeds as well

I seem to need a course or a project to get me going. I read this post a while back, it was the conclusion of a series of posts. dealing with creating the 21’st century school, by Jeff Utecht,. Back in early January Jeff posted a pdf file that consolidated the conversations initiated by the original five posts and added more as a PDF document.
The document includes a description of the tools needed to create the infrastructure for the 21’s century school. He offers two options that might be considered.
- Drupal/Moodle/Wordpress Mu
- Blackboard/Moodle/Elgg
Obviously with all the tools available there are a number of different options and I though I would try putting a package together to see how this could all come together. I am considering Option three and four.
- Joomla/Moodle/Mahara/Wordpress MU
- Joomla/Moodle/Elgg
So far I have got the Joomla install going but have had problems with Mahara. The shared server I am using has not upgraded php to 5.2 so I am having some initial problems with the Mahara install. Works like a charm on the server in my lab but so far not that great on the shared server.
Initial costs are lower than taking a course I have a shared server site. I purchased a few domain names and have them tagged to my IP address (problems with the path to the sites so far). Next will be creating the applications needed for this infrastructure change. The project has started!
