Ok started to write about twitter published my post, the network
went down for what seems like the millionth time and the post was gone.
I can live with that so I started again this time complaining about the
network then working my way back to writing about Twitter. I
am getting a little smarter and this time saved a draft but….. then network
went down again so I lost my post. I am now in Sribefire and this will end up on my Blog….. I hope.
A few weeks ago when I found Twitbin and discovered that
although twitter.com was blocked here in the UAE you could still read
the twitterverse, or whatever it is called. At first after looking at the Twitbin window and reading posts like:
kennyssk (@ - W): ????????????????????? 14S Ago
ErinRydberg (@): Guitar Hero-ing. Quite grand.
I wasn’t quite sure what to make of twitter. Figured out how to add and follow people and things started making sense.
In terms of making connections that might have an impact on kids Twitter has been great. Did not take long until a tweet made it possible to watch Mr Mayo’s grade 8 class in New York Takoma Park, Maryland. As my son said “it’s kind of cool that you can hook up with someone then have his kids talk to us while we are in the living room”. During the Skype conversation evening prayer started. We are quite close to the mosque so I swung my laptop so the camera was pointing out our window and showed the kids in Takoma Park our local mosque. Too cool.
Three hours…… our network will still not let me post this, maybe tonight, think it is time to give up, go home and have a Grolsch……… I still have what I wrote in Scribefire but it will stay on my machine. messed up.
From a variety of different places some things to consider for the second semester.
Writing: (by way of the Thinking Stick) before we examine how to write a blog post have students analyze the differences in writing styles used with a variety of tools. Have the students look at communication using: sms, im, facebook wall post, facebook note post, blog posts and blog comment. When this is done have students analyze and consider the differences in the writing styles. This can become part of the class wiki where students can collaborate and elaborate on what they think and find.
Passion: forgot where…Passion what are you passionate about? Have students think about this. Use the different tools we look at in tech class to help them become independent bloggers focussed on something that arouses some passion.
Design: work in some of the information found here and here consider the four slides idea mentioned in the Design Matters presentation.
Firefox only: ScribeFire, formerly Performancing for Firefox, lets you compose and publish blog posts directly from your browser.
Like its predecessor, ScribeFire opens a split panel that provides a
full set of text-editing tools, complete with rich/source editing tabs,
a live preview, a post history and more. You can easily drag and drop
text, images and links to the ScribeFire pane, making it super-easy to
reference other sites and info within your blog entries. The latest
version, 1.4, promises improved support for Blogger accounts and better
file uploading. It also supports the new WordPress API. (Lifehacker)
Via Twitter read a post about problems embedding a Youtube video into a wordpress blog. Seems to work OK for me. Mark Wagner’s, one tweet made me consider three things. One the Flip Video camera looks like an interesting classroom tool. Have to look at the new Imovie to figure out the new Imovie to Youtube workflow. Would have liked to see the rest of the presentation by Will Richards.
Clicking and dragging tweets via twitbin. Not sure if that is what Mark is looking for in adding tweets to posts….. I am new to the twitter world.
markwagner(@ - W): @willrich45 Hello to your participants… from the other side of the black curtain. I sat down just in time to hear you introduce twitter. 11M Ago
One little thing about the embed though if I add or edit text embedding sometimes seems to break the theme. I am using Mark Wagner;s video down below.
See……..but if I go back and paste the embed code again everything seems to work OK.
